Camp El Wa Ho

Muhlenberg Greene Architects was commissioned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to design a new shower building and assembly pavilion for the recent acquisition of the Camp El Wa Ho girl’s summer camp retreat in Fayetteville, PA.

The new 1800 sq. ft.  pavilion provides a new sheltered gathering space for assembly functions.  The structure’s vaulted scissor truss roof framing and pole-barn wall construction create an attractive multi-use space.

The repurposing of the former Girl Scout camp necessitated addition of a new accessible shower building.  Project challenges included developing accessible access to the new building located uphill from the primary camp walking path, developing an attractive building from a simple materials palette, and ensuring adequate water runoff capture and draining on the sloping sites at both the shower building and pavilion.
